In many languages in the Mediterranean basin, the mariners refer to the phenomenon of ebb and flow in one word: Marea.

MAREA delivers the work of Michela Pelusio and Rose-Mari Torpo, two artists who they have worked side by side and by the sea in Heraklion.  Through the work of Torpo and Pelusio, MAREA initially hopes to draw attention to the culmination of an “artistic nomadism”, while underlining notions seemingly contrary: the historic and the contemporary, art and science, the ecocentric and the anthropocentric.

Taking into account the rapid change of the situation in Greece, the production of a relatively small exhibition, but with a great notion of volunteer work and the involvement of international Artists, Curators, Sponsors, Photographers, Video Production companies, Scientists, Contractors of any kind … made this an ultimate fulfilling experience.

A part of the historic office space of the newspaper “Mesogeios” is transformed into a space for art. The elliptic window of the front room had a view towards the main square and the new library building.

The main Room hosted the paintings of Finnish artist Rose-Mari Torpo. The volume of waves coming and going, the sound and rhythm of its motions are given life through the artist’s brushstrokes - lines, in such freedom of colour and motion that excites an alternative connection to the subject matter; awakening the primitive force of the senses as these relate to the element of water.

The last room hosted a projection of a video showing the performance at cine studio of the SpaceTime Helix Project, and a backlight artwork.
